Ilford Recorder Interview

When we made the trip to Bradford on Friday, 4 September to attend the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign National Conference, I received a phone call from the Ilford Recorder who interviewed me about receiving my President’s Award for 2009 Young Person of the Year. I discussed many things including my passion for volunteering.

After I was done, the guy said that he’d send a photographer on Monday to take my photo and when he came around on Monday morning (7-09-09) he just spent barely 10 minutes taking my photo in my garden in the rain; and that was that.

When I got that from uni tonight, I read the article in the Ilford Recorder from yesterday. It’s pretty good and a big thank you to Dave (my brilliant Connexions Advisor) for contacting them to call me. Though, they wrote the wrong uni that I’m attending; it’s actually University for the Creative Arts at Farnham not University of the Arts London. Well, that’s the media for you; they can’t ever get anything right…

I know I’ve been promising to share photos w/ you for ages now and haven’t done so yet, but the thing is Sarah’s always has the camera practically all time. So, every time I need it I have to really have to insist to use it; it is okay though. And I think I’m definite going get myself my own camera soon, especially now that I’m going to start uni in September…

Sharon & John Visit

On 20 April - 27 April, Sharon & John who are my really good friends from America came to visit me. Sharon is Kim's (who came to visit last July) mum, and a lovely woman. John is a very clever and nice man. On Sunday we had a really lunch with them at home which was wonderful, with lots of laughing. On the following Friday night, me, Sarah, Sharon and John went out to an amazingly good seafood restaurant in Wanstead which was wonderful because of the company, but also because of the restaurant. The food was really nice, and it was a very enjoyable evening with the four of us together. Lots of catching up with each other, sharing funny stories, and lots more laughter. I wasn't even done with the starter when the main course came, both of which I ended up taking home with me. On the next Saturday, they came over to our house for a very lush brunch, which involved pate, eclairs, strawberries, a selection of bread and cheeses, quiche, and fizzy lemonade. It was brilliant. They also brought loads of really thoughtful, lovely gifts for me and my family, which was not necessary but very, very much appreciated. I really hope they can come back soon. Photos below:

Saturday Family Night

Last night, I watched my cousin’s, Amir Khan (who’s an Olympic silver medal winner from the Athens 2004 Olympic Games), at his 15th pro fight to defend his Commonwealth lightweight title against Graham Earl. It was so wicked: Amir won in 72 seconds of the 1st round, and also yesterday was his 21st birthday!
