Saturday Family Night

Today, for Family Night we watched “Flight of the Navigator” directed by Randal Kleiser, and stared Joey Cramer, Paul Mall, Veronica Cartwright, Cliff De Young, Sarah Jessica Parker, Matt Adler, Howard Hesseman, and Albie Whitaker. And it is quite good to watch w/ everyone.

The “Flight of the Navigator” is basically about a 12-year-old boy who somehow is transported in time eight years into the future without aging. Just think of E.T., but only with attitude… ***THREE STARS***

Saturday Family Night

Family Night yesterday was kind of deferred b/c everyone went to a Henna Party in the evening that’s part of wedding ceremony for my Mum’s cousin’s son, and I stayed home w/ my Granddad (since it was over and hour away and I didn’t feel like going) and stuck watching his favourite show on Earth… the news… all while they were gone, which was so much fun.

So, we moved Family Night to Friday night instead, though only for this week. And on Friday Family Night we watched “Bedknobs and Broomsticks” directed by Robert Stevenson, and starred Angela Lansbury and David Tomlinson. This is one good old Disney movies that we’ve all seen when we were younger, and it’s been described as “Mary Poppins' evil stepsister.”

It’s basically musical set in 1940 about three Cockney orphans, a apprentice witch, and an illusionist conman who travel on a magic bed across war-torn England and beyond where they encounter various inhabitants of London, football-playing cartoon animals, and Nazi invaders. It’s really interesting to see it as a child, and then to see it again as an adult.

It was so bloody cheeky, and I really enjoyed it, especially the dancing scene on Portobello Road in London … And as adult I could so tweak this movie to make it into a rated R or even an NC-17: that would be hilarious w/ Angela Lansbury and all, who really good facial structure in her heyday might I add and oh those legs (damn I wish I had a “Time Turner”)! ;-)

Overall, “Bedknobs and Broomsticks” is a classic Disney good movie, not like the modern Disney shite, and it’s a must see for a good laugh. ***THREE 1/2 STARS***

In addition, earlier today Sarah, Katherine, and me watched “The Italian Job” (original) directed by Peter Collinson, which starred Michael Caine, Noel Coward, Benny Hill, Raf Vallone, Tony Beckley, Rossano Brazzi, and Maggie Blye. This was only the second time I’ve seen the original “The Italian Job”, and as Katherine had never seen it I didn’t mind seeing it again.

I much prefer the original “The Italian Job” than the new remake: I enjoyed the original so much more than the remake; it’s just much funnier and stylish than the remake, and the original didn’t take its self as seriously as the remake. I only wish that they made a sequel, but it was not successful in America thanks to an “unattractive and misleading advertising campaign,” so they scraped plans for a sequel. That’s why I keep saying: advertising IS everything…

“The Italian Job” is just a plain good time, and it one of my ultimate favs, which I absolutely love and highly recommend! And Michael Caine is just brilliant… ***FOUR 1/2 STARS***

I (heart) The Boosh!

Today, Sarah and me watched the Season 1 & 2 commentary of “The Mighty Boosh” boxed set and “The Mighty Boosh Stage Show” on DVD, which is written by and stars Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding. It’s bloody BRILLIANT!

We recently discovered it, so Sarah had to buy it, and you all have to too: you will NOT regret it. But my American friends, note that it WON’T play on an American normal DVD player b/c currently you can only get the DVDs in Region 2 format (UK & Europe) and N. America is Region 1… However, you can currently watch Season 1 of “The Mighty Boosh” on BBC America, so look it up (not sure though that it’s still airing, sorry). Or you can buy a multi-region DVD player, and get “The Mighty Boosh” Season 1 & 2 boxed set and “The Mighty Boosh Stage Show” on DVD from Amazon: that way 1) you can enjoy the greatness that is the “The Mighty Boosh”, and 2) you can watch DVDs from any region. I suggest the latter b/c Sarah bought a multi-region DVD player soon after we moved here since we have lots of DVDs from America, and it’s really nice to be able to watch DVDs any region.

Anyhow, I just can’t tell you all enough how much you MUST watch “The Mighty Boosh…” It’s pure genius, so well funny and entertaining, and I’m utterly obsessed w/ it! And I am so happy to know that they're working on Season 3 to air on BBC THREE in the UK around this August. “The Mighty Boosh” is one of the BEST Brit comedies ever: it’s among the likes of such greats as “Little Britain” and “Monty Python,” and such, like those comedies, is definitely NOT for youngsters! I EXTREMELY highly recommend “The Mighty Boosh,” and just cannot get enough. ***FIVE STARS***

History Rocks!

Drunk? Need a good laugh? Well, watch “The History Boys” directed by Nicholas Hytner, that stars Richard Griffiths, Clive Merrison, Frances de la Tour, Stephen Campbell Moore, and more. Sarah and I watched it last night, and it’s so the dog’s bollocks!

“The History Boys” is a British film that was adapted by Alan Bennett from his play of the same name, which won the 2005 Olivier Award for Best New Play and the 2006 Tony Award for Best Play.

The story takes place in a boys’ grammar school in Sheffield, in 1983, and it is about a group of misfits who have recently attained the highest ever A-level scores and are hoping to enter Oxford or Cambridge, taking an entrance exam in History.

“The History Boys” is just a bloody hilarious, witty, and smart movie that you must see! As Eddie Izzard would say, “In a nighttime tele kind of way…” And the twist at the end will really stun you since you’re not expecting it. I really enjoyed it, and highly recommend it. ***FOUR 1/2 STARS***

Welcome to London Kim!

Today, Kim, the daughter of my friend (who's the the president of the company where I interned at), is coming from America. She is her for the summer to attend a video editing internship in Soho. I hope to be in touch with her once she settles into her flat and all, and hopefully we can meet up soon.

I greatly look forward to meeting Kim and showing her all the great sights in London! It's going to be so wicked since Katherine is here too... Hurrah!

Saturday Family Night

Finally a good movie after such a long while! On Saturday, for Family Night we watched “The Pursuit of Happyness” directed by Gabriele Muccino, and among others starred Will Smith, Jaden Smith, and Thandie Newton. It is really an amazing movie.

“The Pursuit of Happyness” essentially is a true story about Chris Gardner who is a 30-year old, clever, yet unsuccessful, salesman of expensive bone-density scanners. He spent all of his and his wife’s money in buying them thinking they’d be a good investment, but the majority of doctors weren’t buying it b/c they thought it was an unnecessary high expense and were switching to X-Rays instead making practically impossible to earn a living to support Linda (his wife) and Christopher (his five year old son). This caused Linda to end up working double shifts and more for several months just to make ends meat, which causes her to become increasingly unhappy, and both Chris and Linda are getting into more financial hardship as bills keep piling up.

One day, Chris then meets a well off man who reveals to Chris that he’s a stockbroker for the Dean Witter brokerage firm. Impressed, Gardner seeks an interview w/ the firm. Linda, hearing that her husband is going "From salesman to intern - backwards," is no longer able to cope with her unhappiness and their bleak financial situation. And she walks out on Chris, and Chris not wanting be separated from Christopher keeps him w/ him. Eventually, after his interview and after Linda moves to New York, Chris accepts a place in the firm internship programme that he reluctantly accepts since it’s an unpaid internship.

However, things get from bad to worse when he’s evicted from his home becoming homeless w/ Christopher, and essentially ends up broke. At one point, things get so bad that he and Christopher had to sleep in a loo at a subway station! But, things start to look up for Chris at the internship programme as he tries extra hard to succeed for himself and Christopher to get the single job placement at Dean Witter for the 20 interns… I only have one negative about this movie: somehow all throughout the flow just felt stiff and slow.

Overall, it is a brilliant and awe-inspiring movie all should watch, and I highly recommend it! Chris Gardner overcame so much shite in his life, and it reinforces my will to definitely get my Master’s or MBA degree and to work in the Advertising/PR field to become the world’s greatest creative genius… ***FOUR STARS***

Saturday Family Night

Hiya! Yesterday, for Family Night we watched Angels in the Outfield that was William Dear, which starred Danny Glover, Brenda Fricker, Tony Danza, Christopher Lloyd, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. This is another movie I’ve seen way too many times, but my younger siblings wanted to see it. So, I didn’t mind seeing it again.

Angels in the Outfield is basically about a boy who lives in a foster home, and sneaks into baseball games with his friend to see the dreadfully hopeless California Angels. And one night the boy prays for help in the Angels winning. Then next time he goes to a game he sees Angels helping the team win, which everyone else accounts as a freak occurrence. The boy subsequently tells the coach who at first thinks he is just a crazy kid, but then does believe the boy sees Angels, and invites him to every game as a good luck charm to tell him which players to play.

Overall, it’s a typical feel good Disney movie, and I found it really cheesy and at times quite boring – I just kept thinking throughout the movie, "Man, I really want a cocktail and really want to watch The Mighty Boosh right now..." Plus, I forgot how damn long the climax drags on; you know what’s going to happen and you’re just waiting for it to bloody well happen already. ***TWO 1/2 STARS***

Saturday Family Night

For Family Night yesterday we watched “Hook” directed by Steven Spielberg, and starred Robin Williams, Dustin Hoffman, Julia Roberts, Bob Hoskins, and Maggie Smith. It was like the tenth time I’ve seen it, and I didn’t really want see it again, but Sufian (my younger brother) really wanted to watch it. “Hook” is an alright movie that did have a few funny parts, and I suppose it’s a good movie to watch w/ the family. But, it’s just was not my thing; I liked the newer “Peter Pan” (directed by P. J. Hogan) more instead, and I think that Jason Isaacs is such a better Captain James Hook than Dustin Hoffman.

Overall, it’s a good movie to watch if there’s nothing else and you want cheap laugh when you’re drunk. ***THREE STARS***

Saturday Family Night

Yesterday, for Family Night instead of watching a movie, we celebrated Mum’s birthday that was on 9 May 2007, and since her birthday was on a weekday we celebrated on Saturday. It was really nice b/c Mum’s two best friends, that she’s known since she was 7 and went to school with, and they brought lots of great food.

We had so much fun w/ tasty food, this amazing cake that Sarah got, and laughing the night away together. I only wish that we could do it more often b/c we hardly get to things like that. Mum’s friends are really wicked, and I always have a brilliant time when they come over. And we took a lot of photos, which I’ll post as soon as Sarah takes the photos of the camera.

Bye for now.

Me 101

Hiya, friends!

I hope you are all well and in good health. For me, this past week or so I’ve had quite a bad time.

I’m still not recovered from that buggered viral chest infection with an immense amount of mucus, which I’ve had since bloody October 2006! Also, I have been coughing excessively trying to excrete the mucus that my rib cage is killing me so much, and my right lung feels very compressed b/c of the mucus; and it’s hard enough w/ the extreme severity of my Scoliosis, let alone dealing w/ this illness, as well.

I really don’t know why I’m just not getting better, especially since I’ve had several courses of antibiotics, all kinds of teas, and enough brandy and whisky to give Pete Doherty a run for his money. And I wish it would just ***** PISS OFF ALREADY! *****

However, hopefully though I’ll have a date soon to meet w/ all the specialist doctors, and take all the tests I need; and I hope I get well soon b/c I’m just so knackered from this bloody illness. Anyway, friends, please keep me in your prayers.

Bye for now. Take care of yourselves; talk you all soon. Have a BRILLIANT weekend! Check back soon.

CHEERS!

Best wishes your friend always,

Family Night Do-Over

After yesterday's interruption, today for Family Night we watched "The Thief Lord" directed by Richard Claus, starring Aaron Johnson, Jasper Harris, Alice Connor, Rollo Weeks, and George Mackay.

"The Thief Lord", based on the book of the same title by German author Cornelia Funke, is about six-year-old Bo and fourteen-year-old Prosper, two recently orphaned brothers that are tossed in the care of a cruel aunt and uncle, who escape their impending separation by running off to Venice. And in Venice, a gang of young rascals and their mysterious masked leader, "The Thief Lord", befriend the two brothers. To support themselves the children steal from the rich, from their headquarters of an abandoned cinema theater, and soon capture the interest of a bumbling detective. But, a greater threat to the children is something from a forgotten past: a magical treasure with the power to spin time itself.

Overall, it was okay movie, but not really my thing; though, it’s good to watch with kids, as Sana and Sufian really enjoyed it. I thought it was like watching “Oliver Twist” on Novocaine; and while watching "The Thief Lord" I was just like "yeah right" during the whole movie. ***TWO 1/2 STARS***

Saturday Family Night

Family Night is officially cancelled today b/c some damn guest just showed w/o even calling... Well, they said they called, but we didn't pick up, so of course they came anyway at 20:30 at night, the bloody wankers! It's a really bad habit that Asians here have, which drives me just mad.

Thus, Family Night is moved to tomorrow night instead.

Saturday Family Night

We watched “The Wild” for Family Night today that was directed by Steve 'Spaz' Williams, which starred Kiefer Sutherland, Eddie Izzard, and William Shatner among others. I didn’t like it at all, and it was so a knockoff of the movie “Madagascar” (another movie I didn’t like). It’s been described as "Madagascar meets Finding Nemo with The Lion King thrown in for effect." – movies.com And Rotten Tomatoes said, "With a rehashed plot and unimpressive animation, there's nothing wild about The Wild. "

It is just not worth your time, and “The Wild” is a definite skip. ***TWO STARS***

Saturday Family Night

For Family Night we rented Eragon directed by Stefen Fangmeier, and starred Edward Speleers, Jeremy Irons, Sienna Guillory, Robert Carlyle, John Malkovich, and Joss Stone, which Sana and Sufian wanted to watch. And Blockbuster called it, "A film in the tradition of Star Wars, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings..." That's an outrage! How dare they; yes, maybe the first two, but in no way like the latter - "The Lord of the Rings Trillogy" is in a class by its self, and in no way is Eragon like it.

I thoght it was rubbish: the acting was shite; the plot had more holes in it than Swiss Cheese (maybe b/c the author wrote Eragon when he was 17 or that it was direted by a first time director); the costumes were atrocious; the editor need move to the North Pole and never edit anything again; and so much more...

***ONE 1/2 STARS*** (Note: the only reason why I didn't rate this film with minus nagative stars is that Jeremy Irons is ussually a good actor, and his acting was marginally okay in Eragon.)

Monday’s Tragic Events

I would like to give my condolences to those who died and to those of you who lost friends or family during Monday’s tragic events at Virginia Tech. I have been watching the horrific events unfold on BBC News, and it is very hard to watch b/c I spent 8 of the 10 years in America living in the State of Virginia; and it’s like a second home to me.

I wish all my thoughts, prayers, and peace to the families/friends of the innocent people who died at Virginia Tech, who each had such great potential yet to be fulfilled.

I hope you all keep your Faith, and just know that you each have a friend here across the Atlantic whenever you may need it.

Day at The Park

Hiya! Enjoying the more of the bloody amazing weather, today being 26 Degrees C (about 79 Degrees F), the five of us (Mum, Sarah, Sana, Sufian, and me) went to the park today.

As it was a wonderful day and the park is not too far from home, we all just walk to the park. So, we packed some snacks, took a blanket, and found a good spot to sit under this beautiful tree. Once we all settled down, Sarah gave Sufian this wicked bubble making wand thingy that she bought when she went to Camden Market with Sana a few days earlier, and setup this wicked portable speakers connecting it to her iPod, which Sana and her also got from Camden Market.

And just Mum and us four kids, we had FANTASTIC time together: Sarah, Sana, and Sufian running around and playing with the bubble making wand thingy; Mum and me relaxing on the blanket; and music blasting from the portable speakers while we all basked in the sun. However, then this old git came along with his damn giant dog, and would not piss off. Frankly, I think it’s quite rude of dog owners to w/o cause let their dogs force themselves upon people in public b/c you don’t know if that person wants to touch it or not, unless a person specifically asked the dog owner to touch their dog! Don’t get me wrong, I love pets and having nothing against pets including dogs, and am not allergic or anything, but its just that my breathing is constricted enough as it is due to my severe Scoliosis than to have pet hair making to even harder to breathe too; and that dog ran all over the blanket with me lying on it and drooled all over my face.

Nevertheless, I had a BRILLIANT time w/ my family, and I CANNOT wait to do it again! Plus, we took lots of photos, and once I organize them all I will post them on my blog, as soon as I am able.

Chat soon. CHEERS!

Saturday Family Night

Family Night: Family Night is something we decided to do together where we spend time with one another as a family, which Sarah and I decided to start up again since we were all quite stressed and missing America. We both felt that since we used to do things together when we were younger, it would be nice to start to do it again, and we have been having Family Night for a couple of months; we all chose different activities for us all to do during Family Night, but we always just end up watching a movie b/c it is the easiest thing to do. And we chose on Saturday evenings for Family Night since we are all home, and Sana and Sufian do not have school. So, once a week Mum always makes bloody fantastic food and we always have a bloody fantastic time together during Family Night… Plus, whether with family or friends, or both, I recommend you each start your own Family/Movie Night b/c life sometimes needs a little timeout.
---

This evening for Family Night we watched MirrorMask directed by Dave McKean, which stars Stephanie Leonidas, Jason Barry, Rob Brydon, and Gina McKee. It is based on a book (written by Neil Gaiman and illustrated by Dave McKean) about Helena, a 15-year-old girl who works for her family circus. Helena dreams of running away and longs to join the “real world,” whereas most kids would love to run away and join the circus. Well, one day Helena wakes up to find herself in an eccentric new place filled by strange creatures: a dream world where she is about to begin on a most remarkable journey.

MirrorMask is a truly brilliant movie, and has such wicked visual effects. Undoubtedly, a must watch! ***FOUR 1/2 STARS***

Day at The Market with Sarah

Hiya, friends! Since the weather here has so amazing lately being in the mid to upper 70’s Degrees Fahrenheit, today me and Sarah we went to our local market, which is an open-air market with an indoor mall nearby on an adjacent street. We went on the bus via the Double Decker buses of London, which was fun; and it is the dog’s bollocks that now all the public transport has quite good access for people using wheelchairs here in London with ramps such as the Double Deckers and the Tube, etc.

Anyway, once we arrived we first walked around outdoors in the open-air market for a good while. It was a bit difficult for me having to drive on the road with stalls since it was quite bumpy, but thankfully my wheelchair has “Rock Shox” shock absorbers making it a bit easier to drive on rough terrain. And you’ve never really experienced shopping until you’ve been to an English open-air market. So, after we walked around the market Sarah and I then decided to go into to the indoor mall, and we looked around in the stores. I saw this brilliant black shirt in one store I loved that had really cool buttons and contrasting blue stitching, but it like 30 GBP that’s like 60 USD! Oh well, I just hope it goes on sale soon. Then, we both had a quick bite to eat at KFC.

Later, in the evening once we got home Sarah rented “The Prestige” directed by directed by Christopher Nolan (who also directed “Memento”), starring Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Michael Caine, and Scarlett Johansson, which Mum, Sarah, and me watched. When she told me that she got a movie from Blockbuster Sarah was like, “Yeah, ‘The Prestige’ has Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, and Michael Caine starring in it… BRILLIANT…” She said, grunting in assent as her eyes glazed over and a long string of drool came down her chin. And I replied sarcastically, “REALLY, OMG, NOW I SO WANT TO WATCH IT, AND ADMIRE THEIR CHISELED MANLY BEAUTY!” With that, Sarah snapped out of her daze and answered smiling, “Well, it also stars Scarlett Johansson!” Smiling back I said I suppose I could watch it. Also, Sarah FREAKED OUT when she realized it starred David Bowie and Andy Serkis in it too, and I was like, “Shut up Sarah, I’m trying to watch!”

Nonetheless, it is an excellent movie that is so well shot, and like “Memento” you have to watch at least twice to get it. I highly recommend the “The Prestige” and I think you all would greatly enjoy it. ***FOUR 1/2 STARS***

Sana Khan A.K.A. Miss Universe

Sana (my younger sister) just got back after spending the day wih Sarah (big sis) in The City to get her haircut at a Vidal Sassoon Academy. I was having doubt about how Sana would get her haircut b/c I still have nightmares from when Sarah got her haircut in 8th Grade thanks to my dad, and she so looked like a boy with everyone calling her my dad's son (I'll post photos, if I can find them, as I'm a great brother like that).

However, when Sana got home she showed me her haiecut first, and there is nothing to worry about. Sana looks BLOODY AMAZING! The cut suits her so much, and she looks even more fantastic since she had her hair dyed too. Sana looks really much more confident, and I strongly think that a haircut/hairstyle can make or break the person...

Also, I cannot believe that Sana is 15 years old, it seem like just yesterday when she was a little toddler running around in our garden here in London in her little white dress and cute Afro; and now she is growing into such a beautiful, smart, and wonderful young lady. It just brings tears to my eyes. But, not that much... The moment's over...

Anyway, I will post photos of Sana's new haircut/hairstyle soon, if I can get Sarah to take some pictures for me.

Time with My Cousin from Manchester - Act III

Today Rabia and her kids (Bilal and Sahil) left around 09:00 to go back to Manchester. Sarah took them on the Underground train at Woodford Station and dropped them off on their bus at Victoria Station.

Overall, I had a wonderful time w/ my cousin, and her kids were alright (just SO tiring and a handful). That's more than enough excitement for one weekend, until next time that is...

And we are all just taking the rest of the day easy, and relaxing.

Time with My Cousin from Manchester - Act II (continued)

Hiya! Photos of Rabia, Sarah, Sana, and me at the Oriental Pearl are posted below:

Time with My Cousin from Manchester - Act II

Yesterday, Saturday, Sarah took Rabia to the local open-air market to go shopping in the afternoon. They both got back around 17:00, and then we all had a snack.

As it was quite late, we all decided not to go to Bluewater - the leading shopping and leisure destination in Europe with over 330 stores and more in Kent, UK. Instead Sarah and Rabia decided they wanted to go out for dinner (as the weather has been BLOODY AMAZING all weekend with temps in the upper 60’s to mid 70’s). So, Rabia, Sarah, Sana, and me around 19:00 went to the Oriental Pearl, a Chinese restaurant, and b/c it was only 0.4 miles away from home we just walked to it.

Once we got a bit closer, Sarah realized the restaurant had one quite high step into the entrance on to an outdoor patio area w/ tables and seating. Right then, hmm… Damn buildings… Sarah then went inside and got the manager, and he came outside and said why don’t we just get some waiters and lift my wheelchair up the step w/ me in it. I was like “no way, it’s too heavy and it has 2 car batteries in it!” (Plus, the waiters there looked like they didn’t weigh very much and looked light as a feather.) Manager went back inside and came back w/ a large wide piece of wood. Next, he placed the wood on the step of the outdoor patio, and w/ trouble and Sarah’s help I drove up the shite wood ramp, as it started to crack. After I got on to outdoor patio area, the manager then tried to put the wood on the many stairs into the restaurant, but the wood was too short and the steps too steep. Again, not going to have them lift me (and if they did, I couldn’t fit through the doors of the restaurant b/c they were too narrow). Sarah (finding the new activists self within her) really tried to make the manager feel guilty by telling him that I’m a customer too, and does he plans to put a ramp into the restaurant; he just said would too expensive and it would be too difficult. Sarah said firmly no it wouldn’t be very expensive, and would not be difficult if they got a structural engineer: the manager just smirked sarcastically. Anyway, we just decided to eat outside in the outdoor patio area.

Rabia ordered a sizzling beef dish, Sarah ordered a Thai noodle dish, Sana ordered a sweet and sour chicken dish, I ordered a chicken on skewers with peanut sauce dish, and we all ordered lots of rice. By the time our food arrived and we started eating it had gotten a bit windy, but the 4 of us were having a really nice time. We got quite good services though with 3 people serving and checking on us including the manager, and the manager kept asking us if we were cold or not, even though we kept saying we were fine. What did he want us to leave? Even if we were cold, it’s not like he had blankets or a portable fire pit or something for us to stay warm. I just thought it was funny.

After we ate the 3 lovely ladies I was with wanted some desserts (I didn’t really want anything), so Rabia ordered a cheesecake, Sana ordered an ice-cream dish, and Sarah ordered Irish Coffee (as the menu didn’t mention any liquor in it); we decided to share the desserts. Well then, the 2 desserts came first that we all started sharing, and Sarah’s Irish Coffee came a few minutes later. She added a profuse amount of sugar to try to make the colour look a bit more pleasant (didn’t really help), and took a sip. Suddenly, Sarah spat it out *MISSING ME BY AN INCH MIGHT I ADD*, and we started laughing and were like WTF! She was like “SHITE, I THINK THIS HAS ALCOHOL IN IT… IT BURNED ON THE WAY DOWN!” ;-) Sarah then asked one of us to test it, and I without hesitation volunteered, as I’ve have had alcohol many a time (but those are stories for another time, another day). So, I took a deep breath and drank half the glass ];-) ! Just kidding, I just drank a sip, and told Sarah that yes it did have alcohol and that it tasted like Brandy. Next, Sarah took her glass in a quick motion and tossed all of her Irish Coffee into some flowers next to our table on the outdoor patio area. I was SO funny. Plus, Rabia kept getting ice-cream of her forehead and couldn’t figure out how she got it there, and after that Sana would not stop laughing all the way home. Once we had our food, we decided to leave (since we’d had enough excitement for one night), and the manager came back and put the crap makeshift wood ramp on the step on outdoor patio area. I reversed down the ramp in my wheelchair quickly as possible, and while I did it cracked loudly, but luckily I was almost off the ramp. We then said thanks, and started walking home.

On the way home, we stopped at Blockbuster to get a movie for later. Once we got to Blockbuster they had a step too, but thankfully they actually had proper portable ramp, which an employee kindly set up. We chose a movie as quickly as we could, and asked the employee to set up the ramp so I could leave. He did so, and as I was driving down the ramp Sarah calmly utters, “You better be careful, he’s quite drunk again tonight.” The employee somewhat surprised looked up in shock. He looked at Sarah and then at me; I smile at him, he then started laughing, and we burst out laughing. OMG… THAT WOULD BE A HILARIOUS SIGHT – ME DRUNK – THAT WOULD BE “MONTY PYTHON” AND “LITTLE BRITAIN” WORTHY! All the us subsequently just legged it back home, hurrying b/c we didn’t want my other cousin’s, Amir Khan, 12th pro boxing fight on TV, and Sarah needed to wee like hell (must’ve been the sip of Irish Coffee, HA HA HA).

Anyway, we made it just in time for the fight, and for Sarah to have a piddle, of course. Amir was great; he won, again, via a third round knockout. That makes it 12/12 wins for him. Also, it aired on HBO simultaneously from the UK for America. Did anyone see it? Tell me what you thought. And I think HBO is planning to air more of Amir later this year.

Finally, about 23:59 once the kids were asleep, Mum, Rabia, Sarah, and me watched “Little Miss Sunshine” that we got from Blockbuster earlier, which was directed by the husband-wife team of Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, and starred Greg Kinnear and Toni Collette. It’s basically “a dramatic comedy film about a dysfunctional family's road trip to a child beauty pageant.” It’s not what you expect, and I REALLY enjoyed! And it was extremely well directed and filmed, and I think it’s one of my favourite movies. I highly recommend it. ***FOUR 1/2 STARS.***

Stay tuned for Act III, the final act…

Time with My Cousin from Manchester - Act I

As I mentioned my cousin from Manchester came to visit on Thursday w/ her 2 kids. We didn't really do much on Thursday after they arrived, other than rest, as they all had a 5+ hour drive by bus from Manchester.

Then, on Friday Sarah (my big sis) took my cousin (Rabia), her kids (Bilal, 10, and Sahil, 7), my younger sis (Sana, 15), and my younger bro (Sufian, 11) to London to a park for the day. I didn’t feel like going through London unless I have to since London isn’t very wheelchair friendly, so I stayed home and took it easy.

Once they all got home around 19:00, we all had dinner and rested for a bit while the kids played. And after we put the kids to bed, around 23:00 Mum, Rabia, Sarah, and I watch “Red Eye” directed by Wes Craven that starred Rachel McAdams and Cillian Murphy. Sarah bought it for me last week and we both watched it last Tuesday (me for the first time); I’m not into the whole horror movie thing, but Sarah said it was more of an action thriller than a horror movie, and that I would enjoy it. And really did, so I didn’t mind watching it again on Friday. “Red Eye” is basically about a woman (Rachel McAdams) who is flying on an early morning flight back to Miami to go back to work at a hotel after her grandmother’s funeral. At the airport she meets a man (Cillian Murphy) who befriends her and ends up sitting next to her the flight; during the flight he tells her to do a job for him via the plane’s air-phone relating to her job at the hotel in Miami or her dad dies. She has no choice, but there are lots of twists and turns, and the ending is quite interesting. One thing that makes this a great thriller is that Murphy’s character doesn’t yell or raise his voice one at McAdams’ character throughout the movie when he was telling her what to do for him and when he (really going at her) was angry at her for messing him about, and that’s what make his character so chilling. Further, here is an excerpt of a near the beginning of the movie that’s just chilling:

Lisa Reisert (Rachel McAdams): Is it Jack for short?
Jackson Rippner (Cillian Murphy): No. I haven't gone by Jack since I was ten years old.
Jackson Rippner (Cillian Murphy): Last name's Rippner.
Lisa Reisert (Rachel McAdams): Jack Rippner... Jack theee... oooohhhh.
Jackson Rippner (Cillian Murphy): There you go.
Lisa Reisert (Rachel McAdams): That wasn't very nice of your parents.
Jackson Rippner (Cillian Murphy): That's what I told them. Before I killed them.

“Red Eye” was so the DOG’S BOLLOCKS! For those of you who have not seen it, you must see it. ***FOUR STARS.***

Bye for now. Check back soon for Act II & Act II…

My Cousin

Hiya! Today, one of my cousins from Manchester is coming with her two kids (both boys) to visit us until at least Sunday for Easter. Sarah's gone to pick them up at Victoria Station in The City.

It's REALLY going to be a VERY long weekend, I can tell already, as her kids are quite wild and naughty! Hopefully though, Sufian (my younger brother) will keep them busy and somewhat calm, being older and supposedly with head on his shoulders... supposedly... ;-)

But, I always have a BRILLIANT time with all my cousins (my dad's big bro's kids), who are all older than me, b/c whenever we get together they are so much fun and ALWAYS spoil me loads! I hope this time is no different.

I will update you all on more of the happenings later.

Yours truly,
The Red Haired Londoner

Sorry

Hiya! Friends, I just want say sorry for not posting a blog entry in a long while… I have had so much to post about, but I have not been feeling very well. Nevertheless, now that I got some new medicine and a nebulizer from the doctor I hopefully will better soon after being sick for over 7 months. And I’ll try to put lots more posts online soon, I promise… Have a great day!

Cheers,

London Calling

Hiya, from London! Welcome friends to my first official blog entry! All my sincerest apologies to those of you whom I have not been in touch with at all since before I left to move back to London. I have wanted to write to you for a while now, but things have just been SO hectic.

Anyway, I hope all is well, and pray all of you are in good health. I am doing fine and am well. However, as I mentioned life has been just chaotic since our arrival here back to London. Let me just start from the beginning.

* 3 July 2006 - We left from America for London on Virgin Atlantic Airways (VAA). And guess what? I not sure if I’ve told you or not, but Virgin Atlantic Airways upgraded me to Upper Class... I was so happy and exited; that was the best flight ever! Whenever you are able, you MUST fly VAA Upper Class sometime in your life. However, make sure book your tickets well in advance because ticket prices go up so crazily, and you can get two round trip tickets to London on VAA Upper Class for about less than half the price (if you book in advance) compared to well over $19,000 for First Class tickets on other airlines. Yet, VAA Upper Class is the best First Class in the industry: they have many great amenities for their Upper Class passengers including use of their exclusive lounge at the airport, seats that turn into a 6 Foot+ bed, heated gourmet meals whenever you like during your flight, an in-flight beautician/masseuse (the only airline that has one), an in-flight bar, and so much more! Plus, whether you fly Economy Class or Upper Class, Virgin Atlantic Airways is the best airline to fly with internationally because they just treat you well. Anyhow, we landed at Heathrow on 4 July 2006, and from there upon arrival we drove straight to my uncle’s house in Manchester to attend my cousin’s wedding.

* 7 to 16 July 2006 - We attended my cousin’s wedding: it went great, and my cousin looked so beautiful! I HAD A REALLY FUN TIME: it was so WICKED and was entirely the DOG’S BOLLOCKS (sorry, Brit. lingo that means "cool" and "really good")! We also took tons photos, and I looked hot, but they are all on my sister’s computer; therefore, as soon as I am able I will get her to send the photos to me via Bluetooth, I will upload them for you all to see. Then, on 18 July 2006 we drove back down to London after the wedding.

* 19 July to 10 November 2006 - We moved into a house for rent temporally while our home was being made livable after tenants completely trashed it living there for the last 10 years. The rented house was the most dreadful house I have ever lived and has the landlady from hell! She is the worst landlady in the world, and she is a complete cow (sorry for my rudeness, but she truly is worthy of it). She charged us about $2,800 per month for a house that frankly deserves to be condemned: it was in the most awful area on a main road; with only 3 bedrooms, was unfurnished, had appliances from the stone age, a garden from the Amazon, doors that would jam and locked you in w/o a key, was raided for cannabis, had no double glazed windows, heating that barely worked, and much more... To top that off, the landlady was (and is) a complete utter GIT (noun Brit., informal: an unpleasant or contemptible person), literally. She would just show up on a weekday around 8PM only giving us about 30-min. notice, and when she would show up she would end up finding something wrong with house when we took excellent care of it; and we even informed her, trying to be good tenants, of any troubles with the house (and there were lots), despite us being able to fix them like the doors that would jam. She also had the nerve to threaten my dad when they had the final walk through and he was returning the key: barking at my dad (getting right in his face) that she would beat herself up and then tell the police that my dad did it in front of another one of my uncles, her Moroccan husband (who is no less of a arse, but not as stupid), and her 8 or 9 year old daughter from her previous marriage! Ha ha, she obviously does not watch CSI! There is so much more BS that she and her Moroccan husband pulled on us, and there is no way in hell that we would live there unless our circumstances were such that we had no other choice while our home was being made fit to live, but I have too much time on her than that she will ever deserves. And as the landlady is refusing to give back our deposit, we are taking her to court on May 18. Though it is only Smalls Claims Court, I am gearing for the worst: I am preparing my opening and closing arguments, preparing our case, and I have been watching ABC’s Boston Legal here on TV to see if I can learn anything helpful ;-) because I want to be ready for any dom-shite the landlady from hell is definitely going to pull in court. Hence, I would rather not say any more incase I hinder the ongoing case (if I have not done so ;-) already).

* 1 October 2006 (approx.) to PRESENT - Also, I have been extremely sick with a viral chest infection with severe mucus, and have had to go to the Accident & Emergency (A & E = ER) twice by ambulance, which was oh so much fun. I just have a great deal of trouble excreting my mucus than a normal healthier person because of my Muscular Dystrophy and the severity of my Scoliosis; I have to extra careful because it can quite easily turn into complicated Pneumonia, which has happened to me in the past, and I really would prefer not get in again. Plus, the icing on the cake is that I was getting a bit better, but on 13 February 2007 I re-caught a full-fledged flu, and it hurts so much from practically coughing immensely since October! I have just been feeling dreadful lately, yet I hope I will be well soon as it is taking quite its toll on me. Friends, just pray for me that I get through this damn illness w/o any more trouble.

That is about it, well the major things of what has been going on in the last several months.

Nevertheless, we are all adjusting fine in London. We all been so consumed with life in London: day-by-day (slowly but surely) routine sets in, and life keeps you moving. London is an awesome place to live, so much style and global influence, and it always has an explosion of development and excitement everywhere. Everyone is moreover gearing up for London 2012 Olympic Games, and the Olympic site is only about 33 min. away from our home. I exceedingly cannot wait for the Olympic Games, and the London 2012 Olympic Games are truly going to be a once-in-a-lifetime, brilliant experience! As Paul Johnson (an English writer) best said, "When a man gets tired of London he gets tired of life itself for there is in London anything a man would want out of life."

Furthermore, having only completing 2 semesters at Northern VA Community College - Annandale Campus in America, I would extremely like to continue my education by attending University (Uni as they say here in the UK) here in London. Although, all Uni's only start their degree programs in September and I have missed the deadlines to apply for last year, therefore I was currently in the process of applying to Uni's and courses in London for September this year. My plan is to get a Bachelors degree in Public Relations/Advertising with Honours, and then probably get my Masters and/or an MBA; that way I will keep my options open and make my millions. However, apparently, because of the damn eligibility system here in the UK I am not eligible for home student status unless I have been resident here for at least three years, which means I can only attend uni with a international student status and would have to pay over $22,000 per year just to get my undergrad degree. Even though I was born here in London and hold a British passport. Yeah try wrapping your head around that one. I can't. So, I am looking at some short courses to take until I can start uni, but most likely I will get trained and licensed as Apple Certified Pro (also learn Adobe Web Bundle – featuring Macromedia Studio 8 software with Adobe Creative Suite 2.3 Premium software): and then send my CV (resume) and cover letters to various PR/Advertising firms in the City and close around such as Airside, Saatchi & Saatchi – London, Firefly Communications, and Wieden + Kennedy London, etc. to get an internship until I am eligible to apply for uni in the end of 2008 for September 2009. Just something to keep my mind active, and if I get paid it’d be twice as nice. I do not know what life has in store for me, but this my plan and I WILL do it! I did not start working on any of the above research/goals until recently because I wanted to get settled into our home first and there was too much stress with other stuff. I hope everything will be okay.

In other news, Katherine, my and Sarah’s (my older sister) friend arrived in London on 28 November 2006 and visited us until 22 December 2006 for her winter holiday. We had loads of fun together. We went to go see the new James Bond movie 'Casino Royale' on Sunday 03-Dec-06. It was ok, not what I was expecting; somehow it did not have good flow throughout and there were too many themes within the plot. It might have just been that I had a really bad head and neck ache since I could only right in the front row during the whole move, but I think I will rent it from Blockbuster and watch it a second time in comfort at home just to see if I missed something. Oh and that torture scene, I barely could watch: it was hellish! That is every man's worst nightmare; it makes my eyes water and my stomachache every time I think of it. Subsequently, on Wednesday 06-Dec-06 the three of us went to the City to see the musical 'Wicked' (with the original American lead) at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in London. You MUST see it; it was AMAZING. It was my first ever time going to the theatre and I immensely enjoyed it, and I cannot wait to go again! And on Saturday 17-Feb-06 I watched my other cousin, Amir Khan, on TV at his eleventh pro boxing fight, which like the other ten he won; he won this eleventh fight in under the first 60 seconds within the first round via knockout. If you do not know who he is, Amir won a silver medal in boxing for Great Britain at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, and he was just 17 years old! Also, HBO are planning to air Amir's one or more fights in US sometime this year, so keep your eyes open. He is really nice and I had a chance to finally meet him again after 10 years at my cousin's wedding. For more information about my cousin, Amir Khan, go to his website http://www.amirkhan-boxing.com/indexTickets.html and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amir_Khan_%28boxer%29. Check the sites out. Other than that (besides with Katherine and Sarah in December), I have not really been out anywhere since October being very sick and all, even though I am dying to the City and thoroughly check out all the awesome places to visit after 10 years. Except, that the weather being so nice last week I went out with Sarah; we went to Belgique, the most FANTASTIC cafĂ© just up the road from our home. It looks more fabulous seeing as it’s doubled in size since my last visit with Katherine; I had my usual wonderful hot chocolaty drink served by my favourite waitress Magda (a incredibly hot bird from Poland, my "Paper Doll," who so was flirting with me again, really), and I shared a tasty quiche dish. I will definitely take some pix to share of Belgique next time I go there.

In addition, I have been missing everyone I know in America a lot lately, especially wonderful friends like you all... Thus, as Katherine has already visited, you all have to fly here for a holiday: you each MUST, TRULY visit and stay with me for at least 2 weeks here in London (Greater London)!!! We have more than enough room for you stay with us: I will be holding you to it, so do NOT forget...

On a side note, now that I turned 21 years young last July I think I am going to go to the best clubs in Central London and the West End, and flirt with the hot ladies I can put my hydraulics on! However, the battery and engine keeps dying in our accessible van that we bought for cheap, which utterly ruins my supreme mystique and charm... I suppose I could use my Taxi Card and call a taxi to the great clubs and bars (that unlike America I take a taxi 24/7 to go anywhere since all the London black cabs have wheelchair access), but to get into London from home it costs like $100 just for one way. Oh well, I just have to wait until I get some money to pay for a taxi or we get a new van and I re-dye my hair red again, and I will just wait a bit longer to find the European beauties I can 'chat up the right way' and have 'a great night or two with' ;-)!

Lastly, I would like to send some shout-outs for my fans around the world. Hello to my friends in "America" – first and foremost to Jenna (my one & only true hairstylist, The Best Hairstylist Ever in History) at Paul Mitchell the School, in McLean, Virginia; to Katherine, in Waukesha, Wisconsin; to Emily and Alexis, in Virginia; to Andy + Heather, in Woodbridge, Virginia; to Sharon + John (with the coolest jobs on earth) at Sensei Enterprises, Inc., in Fairfax, Virginia; to Mary McKay at 5400 Gainsborough Drive, in Fairfax, Virginia; to all my friends at Robinson Secondary School, in Fairfax, Virginia; and to anyone of my other friends I may have forgotten.

Well, it has been wicked talking to you, but I have to go now as I am BLOODY KNACKERED from typing this mega blog entry that took me over three days to type. Take care of yourself; talk to you soon. Stay in touch, and give my best wishes to everyone. Have a BRILLIANT weekend, and as Eddie Izzard said, "Thank you for flying Church of England... Cake or Death?"!

CHEERS.

Your friend always,

My First Post

Hello... This is my first post! I hope check back soon for more about me. ;-)
